The global employment market has gone through a lot of changes in recent years:
- Millennials will soon make up the majority of the global workforce. They are very different from previous generations and have distinctive requirements.
- There is a great emphasis on the importance of diversity, equality, and inclusion (DEI), which impact the culture and recruitment policies of the workplace.
- International recruitment challenges increase – talent shortage, attracting candidates, and remote work.
- The Covid–19 pandemic has fundamentally shifted how people look at work/life/health balance.
All the above is part of why HRM and International companies are more open to flexible relocation packages tailored to employees’ needs.
After all, employee failure in relocation has significant implications not only for the employee but also for the company:
- Financial loss ranges from $ 250,000 to $ 330,000 per year and includes – flight tickets, rent, school tuition, international shipping, salary, etc.
- Damage to the organization’s relationships with important clients and points of contact can lead to a significant loss of market share.
- Difficulties in relationships with government officials in the host country, which may require replacing the international director with a local employee and thus hurt the entire global recruitment system of the organization
- Harm to local staff morale, work relationship, and productivity.
- Damage to the employee’s self-confidence and reputation among colleagues leads to decreased motivation, missed business opportunities, and poor professional performance.
How can we help both global corporates and international employees?
Recent studies show that one of the most notable changes in employee needs is related to emotional/mental health – about 57% of employees would like the workplace to cover the costs of emotional support and allow them to receive it at work (mercer 2021), and about 60% of international companies have expressed willingness to add this benefit to the relocation package (Deloitte, 2021)
In this case, there is undoubtedly an alignment between employee satisfaction and the company’s desire to recruit high-quality professionals who contribute to the organization and help it reach its goals.
What solution do we suggest?
In partnership with prosperabroadcoaching.com, we offer focused and unique coaching services to global companies that send employees abroad and to the spouses who accompany them.
Coaching empowers employees to work in a more structured and goal-oriented manner which helps to improve performance, provide greater productivity, and enables them to work effectively in a multicultural and international environment.
Your organization will have a twofold benefit: You will maintain leading talents in a competitive market and demonstrate that you understand the importance of your employee well-being.
Examples of Global Mindset Coaching Topics:
- Facilitate preparation for the new position in a foreign country.
- How to avoid cultural misunderstandings that could have negative consequences
- Develop global leadership skills.
- How to maximize time and maintain productivity in an unfamiliar environment
- How to work with international and local teams and resolve conflicts effectively
- Provide tools that will contribute to the emotional and mental well-being of the employee
Who are our coaches?
All our coaches are professional coaches registered with the ICF – International Coaching Federation. They have first-hand experience relocating and adjusting to a new location, are familiar with the difficulties, and know how to address the unique challenges of international employees and their families.
How much does it cost the organization?
If we look at the price of coaching as a percentage of the total relocation costs, it is a tiny percentage; only 1.4% of the whole relocation expenses (wages and benefits, international transportation, flights, school fees, etc.)—a relatively small amount for the organization.
But,
It carries essential benefits to the employee, the family, and to the international organization.
A tremendous win-win outcome!
Here is what we Include in the Coaching Package:
6 sessions (60 minutes) with a Certified Professional Coach
Session 1 Before Departure – Preparation for the new position, setting goals, and exploring potential professional, personal, and family challenges.
Sessions 2-5, first months of relocation – working on professional/personal/family balance and coming up with suitable strategies, skills, behaviors, and management methods that will help the employee to succeed in the new role and to settle comfortably in the foreign country.
Session 6 – Concluding the coaching engagement – Reviewing progress and achievements, and creating an action plan for moving forward.
Note: Despite the above suggestion, we would like to emphasize that for the coaching process to be effective and bring results, we strive to adapt the coaching package to the company’s needs and the employee’s profile.
