Relocation – Couples Relationship Coaching

Are you facing a decision to move as a couple or as a family to a new country?

Do you find yourself arguing and screaming at each other instead of having empowering conversations while planning your relocation?

Do you wonder if it is wise to start a new life together in a foreign country?

or

Have you already moved to a new country but instead of enjoying the adventure and working on creating an exciting and fun life together, you constantly attack each other or cry and shut yourself off?

How come your most cherished relationship, the one you have always counted on for comfort, support, acceptance, and love, is undermined, and you find yourself engaging in nasty conflicts that go nowhere or end in silence and disconnection?

One of the reasons is that the decision to relocate to a new country adds stress and tension to your life which might compromise the strength of your relationship. In addition, the massive changes in all aspects of your life add new dimensions to your relationship, and what always worked well in solving past disagreements does not work anymore.

Here are a few examples of unique challenges facing couples in relocation:

  • You feel stressed and overwhelmed, and you want to prove yourself in your new role; you expect support and encouragement from your partner, but instead, all you get is judgment, criticism, and anger.
  • You followed your spouse abroad and had high hopes of fulfilling yourself, but you feel lost, lonely, and cut off from your regular support system. You wait for the evening to pour out your heart to your spouse, but instead, you receive no understanding or empathy for your situation.
  • You are far from home, family, and friends and have difficulty making social connections in your new country. You spend many hours together, but you feel so alone, yet you are embarrassed and reluctant to share it with each other.
  • Your expectation for financial improvement following the relocation does not happen. Instead, you have difficulties meeting monthly expenses and maintaining a decent standard of living. You are stressed out, and your head is full of worries. You exchange mutual accusations, pick fights and start disagreements. It would help if you have time to calm down but have no place to go.
  • Your children do not adjust socially or academically. Their struggle breaks your heart, and you cannot reach an agreement on how to help them; One of you is even thinking of repatriating back home with the kids.

So, if you have unhealthy communication: stonewalling, fall into passive-aggressive behavior, use cynical phrases and tones, are unable to converse, and are on the verge of making hasty decisions but still want to improve your relationship so that together you can enjoy the experience of living in another country and thrive, I invite you to couples coaching which focus on strengthening your relationship in relocation.

During the Coaching sessions, we will work on one or some of the following topics:

  • Preparation for moving abroad:

Through open and honest communication, you will explore expectations, hopes, and fears regarding the transition while making mutual decisions and developing a primary action plan

  • Your relationship in the new country:

Develop the ability to actively listen with empathy to what each of you is saying, build your communication skills, and practice honesty in your relationships.

Explore the differences in how you perceive life abroad and find ways to bridge the gap.

Understand each one’s personal needs and growth aspirations from the relocation, establish a common ground and build a shared vision.

Examine behavioral interaction patterns that are not working to your benefit in your new environment, and come up with different ways to better serve your relationship.

And more.

Coaching for couples’ relationships in relocation, tailored to your personal needs, will provide you with the skills, techniques, and emotional resilience that will guide you throughout the relocation and empower you to obtain the most out of the experience and achieve your goals.

As your coach, I promise you a safe place where you get my full attention, lots of curiosity, and no judgment.
