Have you recently divorced, become a parent, been laid off, or started a new job?
Did your grownup kids leave the house, and you are amid an empty nest syndrome?
Or maybe one of your family members became ill, and you are overwhelmed with fear and sadness?
All the above are changes that have already occurred, sometimes despite your choice, and there is no going back.
But for you, it is not over yet. You are in a transition period and feel vulnerable, uncertain, angry, and have a sense of loss. It would help if you still worked through the change and its implications to gain clarity, develop confidence and move towards a meaningful transformation.
William Bridges, the late internationally known speaker, author, and consultant, describe transition as “A process that starts with an ending and finishes with a beginning.”
According to his transition model, there are 3 stages of transition that people go through when they experience change.
Stage 1 – Ending, Loosing, Letting go – you start to accept that something is ending; you acknowledge that there are things you must let go of and recognize that you have to deal with your losses.
Stage 2 – The Neutral Zone – An in-between time. The old way ended, but the new path isn’t fully operating. Everything is constantly changing, and you are not sure what to do. However, although things seem confusing and messy, there are sparks of creativity and innovation in this period.
Stage 3 – The New Beginning – When you come out of the transition period, you experience new energy and discover a new sense of purpose. All of a sudden, everything feels comfortable and suitable.
Transition coaching helps to manage all 3 stages.
Through coaching, you will
- Accept the ending stage of the transition and manage it with less disruption and distress.
- Figure out what exactly is no longer working for you.
- Let go of the behaviors, attitudes, and assumptions that are inadequate for your life stage.
- Discover what you want and who you want to become.
- Notice internal signs which indicate that you are ready for your new beginning.
- Create an action plan and accountability to move forward.
